Definition - What does Internet Protocol Address (IP Address) mean?

An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a logical numeric address that is assigned to every single computer, printer, switch, router or any other device that is part of a TCP/IP-based network.

The IP address is the core component on which the networking architecture is built; no network exists without it. An IP address is a logical address that is used to uniquely identify every node in the network. Because IP addresses are logical, they can change. They are similar to addresses in a town or city because the IP address gives the network node an address so that it can communicate with other nodes or networks, just like mail is sent to friends and relatives.

The numerals in an IP address are divided into 2 parts:

• The network part specifies which networks this address belongs to and
• The host part further pinpoints the exact location.

An IP address is the most significant and important component in the networking phenomena that binds the World Wide Web together. The IP address is a numeric address assigned to every unique instance that is connected to any computer communication network using the TCP/IP communication protocols.

Network nodes are assigned IP addresses by the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol server as soon as the nodes connect to a network. DHCP assigns IP addresses using a pool of available addresses which are part of the whole addressing scheme. Though DHCP only provides addresses that are not static, many machines reserve static IP addresses that are assigned to that entity forever and cannot be used again.

IP addresses falls into two types:

• Classfull IP addressing is a legacy scheme which divides the whole IP address pools into 5 distinct classes—A, B, C, D and E.
• Classless IP addressing has an arbitrary length of the prefixes.

Seorang bijak pandai berpesan kepada anak lelakinya: “Wahai anakku, sekiranya engkau berasa perlu untuk bersahabat dengan seseorang, maka hendaklah engkau memilih orang yang memiliki 14 sifat,  seperti berikut:

1. Jika engkau berbakti kepadanya, dia akan melindungi kamu.

2. Jika engkau merapatkan persahabatan dengannya, dia akan membalas balik persahabatan kamu.

3. Jika engkau memerlukan pertolongan daripadanya, dia akan bersedia membantu kamu.

4. Jika engkau menghulurkan sesuatu kebaikan kepadanya, dia akan menerimanya dengan baik.

5. Jika dia mendapat sesuatu kebajikan (bantuan) daripada kamu, dia akan menghargai atau menyebut kebaikan kamu.

6. Jika dia melihat sesuatu yang tidak baik daripada kamu, dia akan menutupinya san menasihati kamu.

7. Jika engkau meminta bantuan daripadanya, dia akan berusaha untuk membantu kamu. 

8. Jika engkau berdiam diri (kerana malu hendak meminta), dia akan menayakan kesusahan kamu.

9. Jika datang sesuatu bencana menimpa dirimu, dia akan meringankan kesusahan kamu.

10. Jika engkau berkata kepadanya, nescaya dia akan membenarkan kamu.

11. Jika engkau merancangkan sesuatu, nescaya dia akan berusaha untuk merealisasikan rancangan kamu.

12. Jika kamu berdua berselisih faham, nescaya dia lebih suka mengalah demi menjaga kepentingan persahabatan.

13. Dia sentiasa membantumu dalam menunaikan tanggungjawab kamu serta melarang melakukan perkara buruk dan dosa serta maksiat kepada Allah SWT.

14. Dia sentiasa mendorongmu mencapai kejayaan hidup di dunia dan akhirat.

Empat Sifat Yang Diharamkan Api Neraka

Rasulullah SAW pernah bersabda dalam sebuah hadis yang berbunyi:

( ألا أخبركم بمن تحرم عليه النار؟ تحرم على كل قريب هين لين سهل)

Terjemahan Hadis:
“Tidakkah aku beritahukan akan orang yang diharamkan api neraka ke atasnya? Diharamkan neraka untuk orang yang dekat (disenangi orang lain), merendah diri, lembut (budi pekerti) dan mudah (berurusan).”

(Hadis Riwayat Imam Tirmizi)

Beberapa pengajaran penting:

Hadis tersebut menjelaskan berkenaan dengan empat sifat yang dapat menyelamatkan diri seseorang itu dari azab Allah SWT iaitu merendah diri, hati yang lembut, disenangi orang dan memudahkan urusan orang lain. Kesemua sifat tersebut tidak akan wujud di dalam diri seseorang jika dia tidak memiliki hati yang bersih kerana hati yang bersih itu akan melahirkan sifat-sifat yang baik dan terpuji.

Untuk mendapatkan sifat-sifat tersebut , kita perlu berusaha untuk menanamkan sifat tawadhu’ di dalam diri kita sepertimana sikap yang telah ditunjukkan oleh Rasulullah SAW ketika berhadapan dengan seorang Badwi yang amat kasar dengan menarik jubah Baginda dengan kuat, namun Baginda tidak marah, malah membalas kekasaran tersebut dengan kelembutan.

Orang-orang yang memiliki sifat-sifat ini akan dicintai Allah SWT kerana Allah SWT amat mencintai orang-orang yang lemah lembut di dalam setiap tutur katanya, mahupun perbuatannya. Sifat-sifat yang baik ini dikuatkan lagi dengan sebuah hadis Baginda yang menyatakan dengan maksud “Sesungguhnya Allah itu adalah Maha Lembut dan Menyukai kelembutan (budi pekerti) dalam segala sesuatu” (Riwayat Imam Bukhari dan Muslim)

Semoga kita berusaha memperoleh kekuatan untuk menerapkan keempat-empat sifat ini iaitu bersikap ramah dan disenangi orang lain, merendah diri, lembut budi pekerti dan mudah berurusan dalam pergaulan kita sesama manusia, insyaAllah.
